Chile seeks to safeguard exports with fruit fly surveillance and control plan
The Ministry of Agriculture presented the comprehensive action plan “No to the fruit fly, Chile exports trust”, a strategy aimed at reinforcing actions for surveillance and control of temporary outbreaks of this pest.
The objective is to maintain the sanitary status that characterizes Chile and safeguard exports. Minister Ignacia Fernández emphasized the importance of keeping Chile free of fruit fly since 1995.
The plan contemplates five strategic axes: border control, eradication measures, support for producers, international projection, and risk communication. The national trapping network will be expanded, the Sterile Insect Technique will be implemented, and coordination with the Ministry of Public Security will be reinforced.
